Our edible Roselle flowers are perfect for elevating dishes and wowing your friends! They are a unique beauty, and deep red in color. The calyx (the fleshy part that grows around the flower) is the most commonly used part, and has a tart flavor similar to cranberries. To eat, use a sharp knife to cut the base of the calyx, which then allows you to pop out the marble-sized seed capsule inside. You can save the seed and plant it! The calyx can be sliced and added raw to salads for a tart crunch, added into smoothies and frozen desserts, boiled to make a juice or tea, or dehydrated for later use. Roselle is also naturally high in pectin, which makes for fantastic jams and jellies!
Roselle is also high in Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and Iron, and contains antioxidants like flavonoids and phenolic acids that help protect the body from free radicals. It can also aid digestion, support liver health, and may have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects!
~ Avoid the pit and stem. These flowers are not known to have any adverse reaction to human consumption. ~
