Passionflower (Lilikoi Flower) - Sleep Quality / Anxiety
Passionflower has been used by Native Americans throughout history as a sedative, given its abilities to help you relax and obtain restful sleep. These flowers appear to boost the level of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in your brain, which is a compound that lowers brain activity. This can help the body to relax, which could then reduce the time it takes to fall asleep, increase the duration of sleep, and improve the overall quality of sleep. These abilities have made it a popular remedy for insomnia and anxiety symptoms as well. There was one study that explored using passionflower to reduce menopause symptoms, and the participants in that study experienced a significant reduction in their menopause symptoms which included headaches, depression, insomnia, and anger. Overall, more research is needed to determine the true effects that passionflower has on us, but it seems safe to say that it could be a wonderful natural sleep aid for people who struggle with sleep. However, it is best to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery while taking until you understand how it affects you, as it can cause drowsiness and mental slowing.
Suggested dosage for our Passionflower Tincture is 1-2 droppers full, as needed, up to 3x per day. It is best to take breaks between use, and to not use for more than 7 days straight.
